New Poster For Statham's Safe Online

Big Gun With a ManLast time a poster for the latest Jason Statham ass-kickathon Safe emerged online, we wondered if it wasn't perhaps a tad disappointing that it didn't feature the big man holding a gun to camera. And now, as if by magic...Do you really need to know any more?Statham's latest stoic, slightly wry badass is an MMA cage fighter who crosses the Russian mob and gets his family killed for his trouble. Down and out in NY, he sees a chance for redemption when he decides to rescue a twelve-year-old Chinese mathematical prodigy from said gangsters (they're using her as their accountant, or something). But her escape triggers a three-way war between the Russians, the Triads and a corrupt faction of the NYPD, all of whom are after a priceless code that only the girl knows. The Stath versus two entire mafias and the cops ought to equal surefire gold. Our only concern is, will having a kid in tow cramp his style?Chris Sarandon, James Hong, Reggie Lee and Anson Mount co-star, and Boaz Yakin is the director. He wrote the Dolph Lundgren version of The Punisher, you know. We get Safe in the UK on May 11.

Sillerman back with social-TV venture

SillermanThe man who ran the company that owns "American Idol" is back to take another crack at the entertainment business.Robert F.X. Sillerman, former CEO of CKX Entertainment, went public Wednesday with launch plans for the first product to be released under his oddly named new company, Function(x). The venture is moving into the nascent social-TV space with a new app, dubbed Viggle, that rewards viewers for watching TV with a loyalty program not unlike the kind airlines have been using for years. What exactly Sillerman had in mind with Function(x) has been shrouded in mystery since he snapped up a dormant company, Gateway Industries, nearly a year ago and renamed it without saying much beyond an intent to get back into the media business.Sillerman already made a name for himself at CKX, which owned production company 19 Entertainment, the firm behind "Idol" and the licensing rights to dead celebrities including Elvis Presley and Muhammad Ali. Before starting CKX in 2005, Sillerman bought and sold major holdings in the radio and concert businesses. But Sillerman was left standing on the sidelines at CKX after making a futile bid to retain control of the company. He was replaced as CEO of CKX, which was sold last year to a group of investors led by Appollo Global Management. Now Sillerman is back with Viggle, likely the first of a fleet of services that will be positioned at the intersection of media and technology. Viggle is yet another check-in service akin to GetGlue and Miso but with a twist: Instead of badges and stickers, its point system translates to more substantial gifts from companies including Burger King, Fandango and Hulu Plus.Users can also participate in a range of supplementary content including quizzes and polls that prove their engagement in a program, which will be of use to advertisers. But Function(x) hasn't disclosed if it has signed up any marketers or TV-network partners yet. While Viggle will be aimed first at the TV world, in success it will likely expand to other media. It will be introduced as an iOs app in a few weeks before rolling out an Android counterpart later in the year. Viggle will work with 100 channels at launch.
